Quinn Interviews St. Vincent (Annie Clark)

www.ourstage.com

St. Vincent = Annie Clark. It was great to get a chance to talk to Annie, one of my favorite singer/songwriters to pop up in the past couple years. As many of you know, she spent several years backing Sufjan and Polyphonic Spree. After winning “Female Artist of the Year” at the Plug Awards I suppose it’s too late to call her indie music’s best kept secret. But…with a new album coming soon I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of St. Vincent in the coming year.

SOUNDS LIKE ST. VINCENT:

Here’s a playlist featuring eight artists that remind me of St. Vincent for different reasons. In the comment section tell me which one you like best (and maybe, just maybe, I’ll pick you to win a free copy of “Marry Me,” her debut album).

OTHER COOL ST. VINCENT LINKS:

-The “Jesus Saves, I Spend” video mentioned in the above video (the one w/ boyscouts).
-Here’s her Take-Away Show with Vincent Moon. So very cool.
-And here’s a knock-off Take-Away Show, made by Handheld Shows. Not necessarily as cool an aesthetic, but a better performance of “Marry Me” featuring members of her band.
-The Modern Age has great coverage of her recent free show at Castle Clinton in Battery Park, NYC.

Ahhh, I miss New York…

Wow I enjoyed every single song in that playlist. That’s awesome! If I had to pick favourites though, I think I’d say Green Eyes and and GIVE.

Green Eyes has a piano part that sounds like it could have been written and played by Sufjan Stevens himself, a unique vocalist with so much soul and a great arrangement that builds into something better and better.

GIVE is such a sweet song with perfect production and a brilliant arrangement. The singer is so enticing and unique. (Those high notes!) When the song starts you can barely move a muscle until the final note fades away.

If I had to had to pick my favourite I think I might give “GIVE” (I swear that wasn’t intended…) the slight advantage. It’s just so sweet and unique.

Also thanks for reminding me of St. Vincent, Quinn. I heard a couple of her tunes a few months ago and loved them but I kind of forgot about it until now. She’s really cute too!

    -Daniel
