Feel Vibrationz with Javelin

Sixty-One, that’s the registration number for Javelin on our site (which means they’ve been here since almost the beginning). More than half a million users later, Javelin is still around but now bigger than ever! The New York City based duo of cousins Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford signed to the hip, David Byrne founded label, Luaka Bop recently and since have been preparing their next album.

We were able to get Tom and George on the phone for a quick interview, read it after the jump!

OurStage: How did you get connected to Luaka bop?
Javelin: I don’t even know¦ We were out in California playing a show and we gave a mixtape to a friend of a friend who passed it around and eventually ended up at Luaka Bop
OurStage: Why did you decide to sign with Luaka Bop?
Javelin: We liked the idea of having music out somewhere people can buy and not just from our own hands. Bands don’t need labels as much as they used to, so we wanted to make sure it was okay. We decided it felt nice; they’re good people.
OurStage: Do you have any plans for a new album?
Javelin: We’re working on our first release. There’s no timeline yet. It’ll be some new stuff and old stuff. In the meantime we’re also doing some podcasts for Luaka Bop.
OurStage: Do you have any plans for touring this summer?
Javelin: We have loose plans. We’ve never actually toured before. We are looking at Midwest and west coast dates though.
OurStage: One last question, what’s up with all the old boom boxes?
Javelin: We took countless donations of old radios with FM receivers, paid for shipping and all. We use them in our live performances to pipe signals from samplers into the radio frequency and use them as our speakers.
