This week we take a step into the metal realm for a track from St. Madness. This band was one of the first to join OurStage and are still rocking hard today. Their song Ever After came in 10th place in Metal in August of 2007. Take a listen, grab the download, and enjoy.

Break out the coolers and start planning those road trips because summer is on its way. There are few things in this world that can draw masses of people halfway across the country to spend their minimal savings on a single weekend. A summer musical festival is one of them. From hippies craving nostalgia to college students scraping together their loose change for months, these festivals see such a draw of people that I’m sure they aren’t giving too much thought to these rough economic times. On that note, I’m going to take you on a tour of the five most notable warm weather festivals that deserve your attention this year.
SXSW:
First on the itinerary is the week-long party of southern hospitality that is the SXSW music festival in Texas. The unique thing about this festival is its location: it doesn’t really have one. Rather, this celebration of music scatters mainstream and up-and-coming acts all across the Lone Star State to select bars, clubs, and outdoor spaces. Unfortunately, here comes the bad news, this festival happened a few weeks ago. If you went this year you probably enjoyed such names as Third Eye Blind and Ben Harper and Relentless7. If you’ve been following our coverage you know that over 80 OurStage artists played SXSW. Make sure to check out this festival next year if you missed it; it’s a great way to start off your own tour of summer music fests.
Anneliese van der Pol is definitely enjoying her “Day in the Sun“… and the spotlight. You might recognize her from The Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven where she played Chelsea Daniels for more than 100 episodes, a record for Disney. This year, Anneliese finds herself moving from TV to Broadway while also maintaining her budding music career. In July, you can catch her in the musical version of the play, Vanities opening at the Second Stage Theatre in New York City.
On the music side of things, this red head from Amsterdam has certainly been busy. Her song, “Over It” was featured in the Disney Channel movie, Stuck in the Suburbs and she’s been spending extra time in the recording studio working on prospects of a future record deal. She has also been charting in the top 10 in the OurStage Pop channel consistently since the new year. Currently, Anneliese is competing in the semi-finals for Pop… be sure to go judge and support her if you like what you hear!
Whether you are planning a trip to NYC to see Anneliese on stage or are holding out for her first full-length album, you won’t be disappointed with what Anneliese has to offer. In the meantime, join Austrian artists Climax of Pleasure who commented that, “A day in the sun is a really cool summer song for us!” We couldn’t agree more:
If you needed even more proof that OurStage has become a valuable networking tool for musicians all over, check out this social media strategy guide from Hypebot.com. This awesome chart suggests that bands can effectively market themselves using six simple practices: Reach, Inform, Sample, Sell, Pass-Along, and Engage.
Think of this method like playing Trivial Pursuit; once you’ve got all 6 pieces working together you can go in for the win. OurStage is shown as covering the Reach, Inform, and Sample bases. By the guide’s description, this means artists can come here to “reach more people, keep their fans informed, and allow people to sample their music.” Sounds about right to us! After all, it is our goal to provide a place for independent musicians to be heard and get noticed.
Hypebot.com is a great place to go for news about what’s going on in the music business and OurStage is honored to have received this shout-out!
Thanks, Hypebot!
Every once and a while, great artists on OurStage slip through the cracks and don’t get proper recognition. They do well but for some reason that winning channel spot continues to elude them. Maybe they just have bad luck, or maybe their competition is just too tough, but either way let’s take this moment to commemorate some of our best artists who have not been properly celebrated with a channel win. This will be my last blog post before I move on from OurStage, so I wanted to make sure that I gave some of my favorite OurStage musicians their just deserts before I moved on.
In this post:
White Light Riot (Rock)
Heather Evans (Pop/Rock)
American Babies (Folk/Rock)
Derek Adams (R&B/Hip-Hop)
