April has potential to be the month that Hip-Hop finally reigns supreme at OurStage. We always see great artists in the Hip-Hop top 10, but they rarely make it to the grand prize. Now, with Bow Wow as our host, we expect to see some major activity and an even higher quality of entries in the Hip-Hop channel.
Scroll through the OurStage Hip-Hop archives and you’ll find tracks with infectious beats and great effects, but it is harder to find those mind-twisting lyrics and lip-numbing raps. The Hip-Hop industry as a whole has put so much emphasis on club mixes and heart-pounding beats that few tracks can survive on their raps alone. We found several brave rappers in our charts and want to see more that will impress our celebrity host.

When will these so called hip-hop artists’ learn? It’s about versatility son, the only rappers (or artists period for that matter) that last are the one’s that can constantly reinvent themselves. Look at Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas, etc. The reason these dudes have stayed relevent is versatility. What the problem is music, or should I say what is commercial is getting to much leadway and way more credit than it deserves people won’t sit down and just listen, especially to new comers as myself. I was once highly interested in something has turned out to be a bunch of BS. Have you ever been in a competition and judged your self but happen to notice a comment on someone’s music saying how great it is only to notice the person commenting is the artist themselves under another name that they no doubt use to vote for themselves on OUR STAGE?? Until they fix that the whole judging system is flawed. Maybe they need to set it to one account per ip address or something. This is coming from a man in his first run made it within the top 12 and at one point top 5 until of course the lames started their voting games. I don’t mind losing fair and square but anyone who claims not to be aware of the games on here is in DENIAL or one of those who are PLAYING THE GAME! Next month instead of waiting around for the fans to decide I will be sure to setup 10-20 accounts and go judge crazy… No wonder the industry is f’d up!
