RECORD LIKE A PRO FROM HOME

Hardware
The first thing you’ll need is a computer, obviously. It really doesn’t matter if it’s a Mac or a PC. I’m a Mac user and have found it very simple to record with, but it is quite simple to record on a PC as well.
There are two ways go about recording, in terms of hardware. The first is to simply use the mic on your computer or hook up a simple USB mic. Most musicians have explored their computers at some point, found the simplest program and hit record “just to see how it sounds.” That might be fine for someone recording just for fun, but if you’re looking to make a quality, professional sounding recording, you’ll need to put in a little more effort than that.
The second option is to use an Audio Interface. This hooks up via USB or Firewire to provide connections for all your musical devices. My interface, a Lexicon Lambda, provides 2 channels. There are also many interfaces that provide more channels, allowing the user to record multiple instruments and voices simultaneously. Along with the interface, you’ll need a decent recording mic. That doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton; I myself picked up an MXL 990 for under a hundred bucks a few years ago.
