Entertainment is all about image. If an artist projects the wrong image, then people may not even bother to listen to their music, let alone buy it. All too often, artists get caught up in “playing a role”— maintaining an image or style —and forget to stay true to themselves. There are few genres where this is more true than hip-hop but, luckily, help is on the way.
Black Business Space is an organization that seeks to reverse the negative image that African American artists often project to help further their music careers. BBS has come to OurStage with an impressive roster of R&B singers, rappers and poet-performers. If you’ve spent any time judging in any of these channels, you’ll probably noticed their clients in the upper ranks. From optimistic, uplifting hip-hop to beautiful Christian soul, these artists are making strides to create good music as well as support a positive image for African American musicians. Check out the playlist and head over to their profile page. It may inspire you to get back to basics and project a new image of your own onto the world.

Dear BBS;
I am impressed by the quality and seriousness of the material you’ve presented.
I have only recently pushed for recognition of my original material only to find that the stage has been stacked. Music presentation as an artform continues to suffer in the back seat to irrelevance.
I would be elated to be a part of an organization that would work just as hard as I do.

Preston, give yourself time here on OurStage. Online talent competitions work like investment, they grow with time. Also, it is a marketing tool. Just like we have been able to get this recoginition, sales, encounter fantabulous art and artists, gain new fans, and membership to our online community.
Here’s the strategy:
You may want to enter a song for 2 consecutive months
When you judge, post comments on music you like. This is a strategy some of the artists and fans are instituting to help quality art stand out.
Understand, it’s a backlink!!! (another rung in the search engine ladder)
USE THE SHARE TOOLS (digg, facebook, etc. Ping your entries, etc)
Give yourself 90 days with a specific strategy and you will reap

Comment: I agree an artist that is struggling to make it big,does not need THE WRONG IMAGE So it is important to cast the right image the first time.
