The Voice

Milton Suggs

The voice doesn’t always go with the look. Extreme example: Susan Boyle. A lesser extreme might be Milton Suggs. The Chicago-based singer looks young, a little shy. But his voice is neither. Suggs is blessed with a deep, rich baritone that harkens back to a bygone era of jazz singers. Cuz I’m In Love With You shows a man in total control of his instrument. No vocal acrobatics, no showy vibrato, just a classic jazz crooner with songs that swoon. Cuz I’m In Love With You is a slow-burning, blues ballad with killer harmonies by Suggs and singer Sarah Marie Young. On My Last Goodbye Suggs gets his groove on with the help of piano, electric guitar and stammering horns. It’s retro blend of jazz, funk, and soul”a little Tom Jones, a little Temptations, a little Thelonius. Suggs has a ˜60s sensibility, but his touch is timeless. We’re hooked.
