Superlatones: Cutest Couple

posted in: FeaturesPop

Lately, it seems that we are hearing more and more from new, unexpected partnerships between artists of different genres. This is why, through Superlatones, we are creating our very own directory”a musical wish-list, if you will”of artists who have yet to join the collaborative bandwagon.

Ah, Valentine’s Day: a day for romance, wining and dining, long walks on the beach and candle-lit dinners. But whether or not we’ll be spending the day with a special someone, there’s one thing that always ensures we will never feel alone: music. And who better to show us the brighter side of life than the cutest couple in music today.

The Dynamic Duo:
Ingrid Michaelson and Greg Laswell

Ingrid Michaelson is best know for her song The Way I Am, which was released in 2007 and eventually went platinum. Other than that, the singer-songwriter has kept it mostly low-key, but has been featured in many television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs, and One Tree Hill. Her sweet voice and intelligent lyrics have made her a staple in the indie pop community, winning her performances with such names as Jason Mraz and Matt Nathanson.

Greg Laswell has also been featured in popular television shows, with songs appearing in True Blood, 90210, and NCIS, among others. With his catchy melodies and deep, powerful voice its no wonder that he has received awards for Best Local Recording (2004) and Song of the Year (2007) from the San Diego Music Awards. What’s more, his tragic cover of the Cyndi Lauper classic Girls Just Wanna Have Fun has been in several movies, including Confessions of a Shopaholic and My Sister’s Keeper.

It’s obvious these two indie pop acts would sound perfect together. Pairing Michaelson’s sweet melodies with Laswell’s husky voice would be just enough contrast for this boy-girl duo to create a light, catchy tune. The good news is this: Not only have the pair already co-written a song (performed live, but never recorded), Michaelson and Laswell are also married. No wonder they had such chemistry in Michaelson’s The Way I Am music video.
