Metal Monday: OurStage Metal Veterans

posted in: Rock

I’ve been writing this metal column for a while now (about two and a half years), and in that time I’ve covered some pretty fantastic OurStage bands. From the former Darkest Hour guitarist Kris Norris to completely undiscovered gems like WoodHaven to Parisian street hardcore acts Danforth, there has been quite a spread of talent, and many of these acts are still going strong. If you have been a longtime reader, then you might remember some of these acts and wonder where they are now”good thing for you that I’m here to tell you just that. Let’s cover some of the awesome new happenings of some of OurStage’s seasoned metal pros.

Firstly, perennial OurStage metal favorites Derelict are planning the release of their next full-length album, a followup to 2009’s Unspoken Words, titled Perpetuation. The clips and singles they’ve released from it thus far have all been fantastic, and there’s no reason to believe that Perpetuation won’t be a step in the right direction. Preorder the new album, you won’t regret it.

Derelict aren’t the only OurStage metal band with a new album coming out in the near future. Dark Empire, another perennial metal chart-topper, are releasing their followup to their 2008 album Humanity Dethroned. From Refuge To Ruin drops March 27th , and it’s sure to be a departure from their previous album due to some lineup changes (most notably at the vocal position). We’ve heard this one (and, sneak peek, are reviewing it in a couple weeks). Feel free to preorder it here.

Responsible for one of the most rad metal songs to ever grace the OurStage charts, Revoltons are in the studio completing work on some new music as well. As of February 11th, they had at least finished keyboards and vocals. We don’t know much more than that, but we do know we’re excited. You should be too.

Prog/experimental metal specialists Sioum are in the midst of creating a retro RPG soundtrack as well as finally playing shows again. For those not in the know, they had been taking a break from playing live for a few reasons, but primarily because one of the band’s members had a pretty serious arm injury, which is now getting better. You can grab their first album on their bandcamp for any price you want.

Those are just a few of the really cool things OurStage metal bands have in the works these days. Is there anything I forgot that we should have covered? Make sure to let us know in the comments because these are things we want to know! While you’re doing that, check out the rad tunes from the bands I’ve mentioned in the player below!
