New Jackson 5 Rarities Dredged Up In "Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls"

Since the King of Pop’s untimely death there’s been a fairly consistent stream of posthumous albums culled from demos, b-sides, and various curios from over his extensive back catalog. We’ll be seeing many more Michael Jackson “rarities” records like these for years and years and years to come, no doubt.

But whatever argument could be made against cash-grab, unit moving tactics like that will evaporate in the face of Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls, a compilation record of covers, alternate takes, and unreleased tracks from The Jackson 5 circa the mid 1970s.

Yes, modern nostalgics, you heard me right. Baby Michael is back.

News of Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls’ release would be welcome if only as a distraction from the wild drama that is currently surrounding the Jackson family. Indeed, if the rest of the record is anything like “If The Shoe Don’t Fit,” an unreleased cut premiered on NPR’s All Songs Considered earlier this week, then the funky and feel good pop cuts contained in Come And Get It will a balm for even the deepest psychic wounds. In fact, it’s kind of amazing that “If The Shoe Don’t Fit” has been locked away for so long. The track is a ray of sunshine aimed directly at the pleasure centers of your brain with an ear-wormy hook to boot. Listen to it once over at NPR and try not to listen to it again, I dare you.

Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls is scheduled for release on September 18th.
