The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

US Release date: Sept. 21, 2012

Let’s face it. Whenever we hear of a critically acclaimed book making its big screen debut, we’re a little more than skeptical. However, with author Stephen Chbosky directing the on screen adaptation of his wildly successful book, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, fans of the book can rest assured; this film will make you every bit as teary eyed, euphoric, and nostalgic as you remember.

For first time fans, and those trickling in from Emma Watson‘s Harry Potter days, buckle up. Though the trailer gives more of a feel-good, anything is possible vibe, this film is a raw look into the struggles of 15-year-old Charlie’s life with the recent suicide of his best friend, the immersion into high school, and all the typical teenage woes of love, loss, and self guilt.

But don’t be fooled. Though dealing with the typical ups and downs of growing up, Chbosky does this in a very atypical way, with a carefully constructed storyline backed by stellar performances by core cast members Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller.

And hey, if you’re not sold yet, there are some excellent music references in there. Any time you can throw mention of The Smiths and The Shaggs into the same hour and a half time span, you better believe you have a winner.

Sinister

US Release date: Oct. 5, 2012

Chock full of creepy children, ritualistic symbols, and a tried-and-true horror plot line, Sinister brings viewers into the world of true crime author Ellison who, upon seeking a fresh subject for his new book, moves his kin to the site of a family homicide. It is there that Ellison, played by Ethan Hawke, discovers an old reel of film, which becomes the catalyst for a series of paranormal infiltrations within the family’s own home.

Whether you like them dark, twisted, supernatural or just frightening enough to make you jump, keep this one on your ˜to see’ list.

US Release date: Paranormal Activity 4

Oct. 19, 2012

For fans of Paranormal Activity 1, 2, and, well, 3, you’re in luck, because the release of Paranormal Activity’s fourth installment is just around the corner, and just in time for Halloween.

Paranormal Activity 4 ˜s plot has been pretty hush-hush, no doubt heightening the anticipation and amping up the expectations. But from the trailer we’ve put a few pieces together for you. There are new neighbors in town and by all accounts, they’re causing a ruckus in the central household. Dare I venture that these neighbors are causing some paranormal disturbances? You be the judge. On top of that, we see a bit of Skype integration with a woman we can only assume is our leading lady, perhaps giving way to a clever new low-budget filming approach.

Cloud Atlas

US Release date: Oct. 26, 2012

Based on the award winning novel by author David Mitchell, and regarded as a massive undertaking for film, Cloud Atlas is hitting theaters this October, and judging by the trailer, it’s a whirlwind of enchanting characters, intertwined plot lines, and even jumping time periods.

A sweeping look at the perplexity of human purpose and existence, this is one worth marking your calendar for.

Killing Them Softly

US Release date: Oct. 19, 2012

Brad Pitt stars in this.

I could probably end the synopsis right there, and between that little tidbit of knowledge and the trailer, you’d be sold. However you’re still reading and I’m still writing, so it seems only fair to give you a bit more.

Killing Them Softly is your typical robbery gone wrong movie, with dark overtones, clever one-liners, and an absolutely stellar cast including James Gandolfini and Vincent Curatola. This screen adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel, Killing Me Softly offers fans an updated take on your good ˜ol gangster movie.

Wreck-It Ralph

US Release date: Nov. 2, 2012

Reilly stars as the voice of Wreck-It Ralph, the ‘bad guy’ video game character, who breaks free of his own world, with a longing desire to play the ˜good guy.’ In search of his new role, Ralph hops from one adventure to the next before landing in a first person shooter game, and getting mixed up in all the wrong situations. Will those video game characters never learn?
