posted in: PopReviews & Playlists

Pop music always makes us feel good so why not start out the new year with a playlist of music that will cheer you up, chill you out or get you through a tough time. There are many other genre influences throughout our list, including indie, country and R&B, so be sure to listen closely and see what you can hear. Keep an ear out for these acts: they’ll be hitting the charts hard in 2012!

Keep Talking – Hannah Rae Beale: This soothing pop ballad is tinged with country and very reminiscent of Colbie Caillat‘s Realize. While the lyrics are somber, the overall vibe of the tune is relaxing. It’s perfect for a chilly evening indoors by the fire, snuggled up on a couch!

Take Me Home “ Alexandria Maillot: This recent addition to her catalog is bound to grab some attention. It layers a cute, kitschy piano track with punchy, clear vocals and even some tambourine. Fans of Florence and the Machine and Lenka will appreciate this vibrant tune that’s perfect for walking to class or just lounging around.

Either Way “ Civil Sound: You may mistake the first few seconds of this song for a Lifehouse tune, but as the song progresses, a more punk/indie sound emerges that gives the song a unique twist. Civil Sound will be the OurStage go-to for fans of Lifehouse, or lovers of pop-punk into 2012.

Ordinary World “ June 21: This digitized pop track has many interesting elements, including the lead vocalist’s range and vocal delivery. Clocking in at four and a quarter minutes, the general structure of the song remains consist throughout. This feel-good pop song is one that you are sure to enjoy!

This is Not a Joke “ Tallulah Darling: While the vocals on this track are Avril Lavigne-esque, the song as a whole sounds like it would be right at home on the soundtrack for an indie movie, like Juno. The theme of yo-yo love is close to many of our hearts, so why not check out this yummy slice of indie pie?

Golden “ The Manuela: The deep, rich intro of this track evokes the gripping lines of a Sara Bareilles song. The song is upbeat despite a somber theme, the lyrics are relatable and catchy, but what really makes this song worth a second listen is the standout vocal track. Check it out and enjoy!

Yesterday’s Light “ Paper Arrow: This track exudes calming vibes, and who couldn’t use a little relaxation this time of year? This rhythmically-charged tune is most easily compared to one of John Mayer‘s more soothing tracks, but this song has a personality all it’s own”and it’s perfect for this time of year!

Waiting for Your Smile “ Sullivan Street: This song is soaked with emotion and love from the very start. The lyrics catch your ear first, but don’t forget to notice the driving guitar, the jumping melody or the multi-layered sound that Sullivan Street produces on this track.
