Chief Keef Might Have Violated His Probation In Pitchfork Gun Range Interview

Kids these days.

Chicago rapper Chief Keef has been a lightning rod for controversy ever since he broke into the mainstream. His ascension mythos is well documented, having recorded the music video for “I Don’t Like” in his grandmother’s house while Keef (real name: Keith Cozart), was under house arrest. Though Keef’s star has risen considerably since then, his penchant for transgressive behavior hasn’t been diminished.

There’s the asinine but forgivable instagram photos of Keef and a paramour engaging in… relations. There were the regrettable and reprehensible tweets that came from Keef’s account following the shooting death of fellow Chicago rapper Lil Jojo. In his defense Keef alleged that he had been hacked and that the incident has changed his outlook on how he uses the micro-blogging service.

But the most recent episode in the Chief Keef saga may have the deepest and most lasting repercussions for him and his rap career and could potentially result in the rapper’s incarceration.

Prosecutors in Chicago are arguing that Keef has violated his parole during an interview with the independent music website Pitchfork, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The allegations stem from Keef’s appearance in Pitchfork’s Selector series, video interviews which feature rappers in unique scenarios. This particular Selector installment from July feature Keef freestyling and handling fire arms in a gun range in New York City. Problem is Chief Keef was sentenced to probation for 18 months for pointing a gun at a police officer. For their part, Pitchfork, which is partially based in Chicago, has taken down the interview and posted a retraction, noting that, “the concept [for the Selector interview] was rushed and never should have happened.”

Chief Keef’s next court hearing is scheduled for November 20th.
