If You Want "Scream 5" To Happen Then Let Wes Craven Know

Wes Craven is one of those people who is only kinda, sorta on Twitter. Every now and then Craven will let loose with a volley of tweets only to go dark for weeks or months at a time.

Like yesterday, Craven started tweeting again after a near ten month absence from the microblogging service. He had a few jokes, apologies for not tweeting enough coupled with an assurance that he was going to try to be a lot more active (that’s what they all say, Cravey), and then, a bombshell:

“No news on Scream 5 yet. You guys really want another one?”

It’s hard to get at exactly what Craven is trying to say here. What inflection is he using? Should this read, “Are you guys actually clamoring for another Scream movie?” or “You guys really want this, right? I want you to shout your love for meta-horror from the mountain tops!”?

The fate of the sixteen year old Scream franchise has been cloudy following Scream 4’s underwhelming performance at the box office in 2011. There had been reports last year that Scream 5 was in the works but Craven’s involvement hadn’t been determined. Then in June it was revealed that MTV was attempting to develop a Scream series for the small screen, though further details about a TV adaptation have been scant.

But it looks like Craven is going to take at least one more stab at the series. If you really want him to, that is.
