Candy Hearts Cover The Descendents

Bridge Nine Records’ indie-punk act Candy Hearts are currently streaming their cover of The Descendents classic, “Nothing With You.”

Taken from the group’s forthcoming album Miles and Interstates, “Nothing With You” has been stripped down to a semi-acoustic jam with vocalist Marie Loveland making the lyrics of Milo feel like her own. I won’t go as far as to say it’s better than the original, but it certainly doesn’t feel like your average cover song. You can stream the track below and decide for yourself.

The key to a truly great cover is that it makes you fall deeper in love with the band reworking a song, while simultaneously reaffirming your connection to the original artist. As a Descendents fan, this cover makes me want to listen to my records from the band, but also increases my curiosity about Candy Hearts’ new album. I can only hope fans of Candy Hearts who may be unfamiliar with the work of The Descendents will take it upon themselves to do similar research after hearing this track.
