2 Chainz is an artist many people continue to have a love/hate relationship with. He’s often on the cusp of delivering something great, working frequently with talented collaborators, but from time to time he delivers tracks so lyrically mindless that it’s hard to appreciate the sonic depth of the track. “Where U Been” comes dangerously close to this territory, but once the hook kicks in its hard to find anything worth griping about.
B.O.A.T.S. 2: Me Time hit stores earlier this week. Check out the clip for “Where U Been” below. (more…)
Released as a single in remix form, “Give It 2 U” teams Thicke with 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar. The video finds all three artists coming together on a high school football field filled with gorgeous women in a variety of costumes. It’s kind of like the greatest parade that ever took place, only no one is there to see it other than the people performing (if that makes sense). You can view the clip below.
The single “Blurred Lines” completely changed the course of Robin Thicke’s career, and from the sounds of it “Give It 2 U” could very easily push him further into the public eye. His new album, which is also titled Blurred Lines, is available now. (more…)
Partnering with hip-hop heavyweights 2 Chainz and Big Sean, Drake surprised the Internet in the early hours of today by releasing a new song (and free download). The track, titled “All Me,” is a celebration of getting yourself to the place you want to be. Throughout the verses and hook all three emcees review their achievements and drive home the idea that none of it would have been possible without one thing: themselves. You can stream and download the track on Soundcloud.
While it may seem like we’re giving Drake a hard time for patting himself on the back with “All Me,” it would be hard to argue that he is wrong. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on this latest material.
Debuting online within the last 24 hours, the official video for “Headband” features one of Bobby Ray’s simplest concept to date. Forget about the larger-than-life shots of luxury, travel destinations, and the like. This time, the man who gave us “Nothing On You” performs around what appears to be his house, while 2 Chainz relaxes in a lawn chair surrounded by synchronized sunbathers. It’s as odd as it sounds, and thoroughly entertaining. You can view the video below.
B.o.B. is reportedly working on a new album, but no information has been confirmed at this time. Stay tuned for further updates in the weeks ahead. (more…)
When his debut album arrived in stores last fall, 2 Chainz proved every hater wrong by releasing an album that was more than a handful of singles and throwaways. Though his style may not be for everyone, 2 Chainz has proven repeatedly that he has a unique perspective on life that adds a ring of sincerity to even the most ridiculous tracks. Now it’s time for album number two, and if the new trailer is any sign things are about to get pretty crazy.
In a new video uploaded this week, 2 Chainz teases the release of Based On A T.R.U. Story II with scenes and images from his life of luxury. It’s clear the last year has been good to 2 Chainz, and now the time has come for him to give thanks by offering fans a new album. You can view the video at the end of this post.
Based On A T.R.U. Story II will hit stores at the tail end of summer. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the trailer. (more…)
Taking to Twitter sometime in the last twenty-four hours, 2 Chainz announced plans to release his latest offering to fans in time for the changing of the leaves. He posted “FEATURES ON HAULT… NEW ALBUM ON THE WAY SEPTEMBER TENTH!!!!”
A break from features may be just what 2 Chainz and hip hop needs right now. As much as I love his unique flair for theatrics and his truly one-of-a-kind stage presence, 2 Chainz is one of many artists who are over-saturating the genre with content right now. He’s on every song, and as such it becomes hard to get excited for his appearances. Some time away will do him, and us, a lot of good.
Are you for 2 Chainz to release another album? comment below and let us know if this is something you see yourself picking up in the months to come.
“Gold Rush” is yet another entry into Sparks’ applauded history of pairing artists people wouldn’t normally put together and creating one-of-a-kind music. This time around Macklemore, 2 Chainz and D.A. Wallach join the madness against a beat that is 100% ready to party. You can stream the song at the end of this post.
Clinton Sparks will release his new mixtape, My Awesome Mixtape 4, later this year. (more…)
Turning his usually bright and positive vibes to darker tones, the official clip for “Like Me” finds 2 Chainz and The Weeknd performing on an empty street in the middle of the night. A beautiful girl or two are seen wondering the streets, but otherwise the clip is focused on making the most interested edit possible out of a handful of performance shots. To the Editor’s credit, he does a heck of a job, but a performance is a performance clip regardless of what after effects you add to the mix. You can view the video below.
2 Chainz label debut, Based On A T.R.U. Story is available now. (more…)
Yes, the song that swept YouTube in 2012 and reached over 1 billion views has finally been given the remix treatment (in the third month of 2013). To sweeten the pot, Diplo recruits 2 Chainz and Tyga to lay down a pair of verses on top of his redux, but it’s hard to tell if that will be enough to make people care about the song once more. You can stream the official “Gangnam Style” remix below. (more…)
After about a year of heightened anticipation, Rakim Mayers – better known as A$AP Rocky – has unveiled his debut album, Long.Live.A$AP. Released on January 15 by A$AP Worldwide, Polo Grounds Music, and RCA Records, the album has made a rather big splash in the urban world and has earned the artist a multi-million dollar record deal, the likes of which have not been seen since 50 Cent began his successful career about a decade ago.
Quickly rising through the cracks of the underground rap world, A$AP Rocky’s debut album has earned him a seat the top at the top of the charts. Long.Live.A$AP features two promoted singles – “Goldie,“ which is the lead single off the album, and “Fuckin’ Problems,” which features guest appearances from rappers Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar. The two tracks are quite different from each other in terms of style, energy, flow, and lyrical content, but are both very well produced. In fact, the entire album is well structured with heavy emphasis on production value. A$AP’s beats are unique to that of many other rappers, which is perhaps why many have flocked to his music; it’s a new sound.
Unfortunately, guest artists and featured producers aside, A$AP Rocky’s material is perhaps the weakest aspect of the album. A$AP offers next to no lyrical inventiveness, nor is there any actual substance to his lines. He spends most of his verses re-hashing well-worn hip-hop tropes “ bragging about his high-fashion tastes, his glamorous life, and supposed street cred, the latter a frequent source of controversy.
