EMBED THIS VIDEO
At this point, we know how Obama and McCain plan to support the middle class, the troops, and the elderly. But what about the growing constituency of indie musicians?
We caught up with dozens of indie bands at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York City and posed the question: What do you want the next president to do for indie musicians?
Hilarity and surprisingly reasoned responses ensue. Enjoy the video!
And in the comment section, let me know what you want the next president to do for indie music fans!
If Robert Pollard and Peter Griffin started a band together, it would probably sound something like Cheeseburger. Intrigued by their band name, I checked these guys out last night and was blown away. Kudos go to my cameraman, Matt, who took a shot to the face from leadsinger Joe Bradley while shooting.
OurStage fans may be reminded of The Matt Truman Ego Trip, who have been producing over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek songs about cocaine and Rock & Roll for years. Me? I’d like to see the two bands tour together.

To kick things off at the CMJ Music Marathon 2008, I caught up with my favorite Arkansas band, Memphis Pencils. Ok, so they’re the only band I know from Arkansas, but trust me, they’re really good. Inspired by Renaissance choral music, Brian Wilson, and Grizzly Bear, these guys craft quirky, catchy songs with a homemade feel. If you haven’t heard their song “Un Dandy Dia,” do yourself a favor and give it a listen. And while your at it, join their fanclub by visiting their OurStage profile.
Stay tuned for their live performance video from CMJ coming Saturday…
My last day at Bumbershoot was a complete whirlwind. Kate Tucker, Blitzen Trapper, and Dan Deacon were all incredible. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I didn’t make it out to some of the biggest shows of the day, including The Offspring, Paramore, and Death Cab for Cutie. Fortunately, my friend Tiffany Sherman came through with great pictures of each of them. Here are some of her best of The Offspring:
