Broken Social Scene Rocking …

Broken Social Scene … giving us some a$s … yeah boys.

I ended the day by checking in with one of my favorite bands, Death Cab for Cutie… and apparently so did everyone else!! It was a perfectly mellow way to end a wild week of music and adventure.

Sunday Afternoon: Don DiLego

Check out OurStage artist Don DiLego performing “Television Sun,” a song he says you can only find here. Enjoy!

Don’s set was incredibly fun to watch and his quirky sense of humor kept us laughing as we grooved to his upbeat tunes.

Sunday Morning: Morningbell Performance

On Sunday, the crew from Morningbell performed an energetic and pop-laiden set that was the perfect wake-up call for our hip-hop weary ear drums. I was amazed by how quickly their melodies lightened the atmosphere in the Sonic Village and delighted that their music attracted an enthusiastic crowd of fans!

Saturday Night: Late night with Lupe, Talib & Chali

Saturday night was full of amazing shows, but the late night HipHop went above & beyond my expectations … and no, I’m not talking about Kanye West.

At 1:30am Lupe Fiasco hit that stage in ‘The Other Tent.’ If anyone in that audience was losing steam and getting sleepy they were jolted back into action the moment Lupe stepped on stage. His performance of ‘Daydream’ had everyone singing along and the crowd went nuts as he and his back up singers slowly laid down on stage to enhance the mood.

He went out in style with his hit ‘SuperStar’ and had me fooled when a mohawk-ed Adam Levine look alike stepped on stage and sang the chorus!

And then it was time for Talib, who kept it simple with a DJ and some incredibly talented back up singers. His performance was the perfect compliment to Lupe’s fiasco.

OurStage camera man, Andrew Bertino, was willing to lose a little sleep to grab the money shot of Talib’s performance.

After I had my ears (happily) blown out by Talib and Lupe, I joined Press Project pals Cap and Iyeoka for the Chali 2na show. Above is a blurry but cool shot of Cap as we were chillin behind the sound booth.

While I would have loved to see Kanye’s set (which was scheduled for 2:45am) he hadn’t even gone on by FOUR in the morning. I’m not sure if he was waiting for more fans to come over or what – but from what I heard he performed a pretty short set to a pretty sparse crowd. This little ‘typically Kayne’ stunt landed him on the bad side of a LOT of Bonnaroo fans, several of whom walked around with Kanye ‘Sux’ signs during the day on Sunday. While I don’t approve of his shifting the schedules to get the main stage OR his late night push out – I still got love for my man Mr. West and hope he makes a future attempt to set it right at Bonnaroo.

All in all it was a LONG but great night. With a full day looming for Sunday we headed back to the hotel and passed out the moment our heads hit the pillow.

Saturday Night: Pearl Jam!!

I have to admit I have a little space in my heart for Pearl Jam. I associate them with those rebellious, plaid flannel shirt wearing years of my life when I thought it was hip to dye my hair with warm kool-aid. They’re right there with STP & Nirvana. But in all my years of concert going I had never made it to a Pearl Jam show. I had my doubts that they would be able to carry the What stage in the same way that the Police were able to last year … oh how wrong I was…

While we couldn’t get close with our camera gear, OurStage biggest fan Shinny actually got right in close and snapped this shot!

The performance was tight and well executed with some rather interesting solos and the occasional improv… like when Eddie jumped off stage and shared his wine with some lucky fans in the front row!! He attacked each song with a ferocious energy that would be impressive for a man half his age. And while I still can’t understand a word he’s singing half the time – this was, for sure, a concert that will go down in my history books as one of the best I’ve ever seen.
