OurStage’s June ‘09 Video Grand Prize winners Eatliz are making their CD Violently Delicate available for free download! This album features the winning song, “Attractive,” which also won “Best Video” in the Israeli Annual Animation Festival.
As “Israel’s indie super group,” Eatliz was the first Israeli band to receive the coveted MTV Artist Spot. The ensuing exposure is one reason why Eatliz continues to be Tel Aviv’s worst-kept secret. Going strong after seven years, the band is enjoying their success and OurStage is happy to be a part of it.
A note from Eatliz:“The album also features our “Hey” animation music video which is actually even more successful than “Attractive.” It has been accepted to 70 (record number) international film & animation festivals and won 8 awards, including a special prize from director Spike Lee.”
As long as you haven’t been hiding beneath an OurStage rock for the last few days, you’ve heard our Grand Prize Winning song “Get Out Alive” by Killed By Design. It was entered in the Modern Rock channel for June 2009, quickly climbed the ranks, then stole the top spot for our overall winner last month. Killed By Design has been gracing OurStage’s airwaves for only a year now, but has been making serious waves since—winning 8 Top Ten achievements, a Judging Excellence and, as previously mentioned, our June 2009 Grand Prize.
This unbelievable track is likable for any music fan, even myself who usually runs for the nearest set of earplugs at the very mention of rock. “Get Out Alive” has great instrumentation, catchy lyrics and a Layne Staley sound alike for a lead singer. The song starts off slowly, telling listeners “It’s up to you…”, to get out of this world of overwork and underwhelming passion. As a rock novice, I immediately thought of 3 Doors Down as a relatable mainstream artist that mirrors their unique soundscapes and message filled lyrics.
When asked, lead singer of this outrageously good group, Kyle Spicer said that the inspiration behind this song began with two lines, “Set out across the open air. Get out alive and go from there.” Spicer explains, “We’re in a time when everyone is overwhelmed, overworked, underappreciated… The result is a desire to break free and start anew… ‘Set out across the open air. Get out alive and go from there’ is a simple statement to reflect this passionate, worldwide frustration.”

It would be easy to say Amy Kuney is just another female singer/songwriter in a sea of them recieving national attention recently, but there’s more to her than that. She travelled in Central America as a teenager, where she encountered experiences beyond what most people ever see- including being kidnapped by rebels while traveling through Guatemala. Through her harrowing adventures, she has been giving plenty of material to help fuel her songwriting career. Her inspiration fueled by incredible experiences in life captured the attention of a producer in Los Angeles, and things have been rising ever since.
Kuney won the March Grand Prize on OurStage for her song “Thank You For Last Night”, and has been garnering national attention for her other songs as well, including placement on TV shows One Tree Hill and Passions. She also had the luck to be cast in a one-episode role on Gilmore Girls. Kuney is also about to embark on a national tour with Kate Voegele in support of Amy’s debut solo album, Bird’s Eye View.
