OSBlog_YBTJ_Flydad77

This week our Judge is Flydad77, who just happens to be the fly dad of two members of Jazz The Ripper, our May Video Grand Prize Winners!

"Daughter and Dad"

"Daughter and Dad"

Stats: 3 Predictor awards including 1 Silver, 10 Judging Excellence awards as a Fan.

Bio: Flydad is a very active member of OurStage. (Maybe you should go be his friend!) Musically his role is the “roadie, bank, booking agent, and sound guy.” In life he’s a pilot, aircraft mechanic, avionics tech, and aerospace engineer. Phew! Try saying all that three times fast. And now for his picks as Judge:

Mine Tonight” by Viv Peyrat for Rock

“The introduction is a great hook that grabs your attention. Reminded me of The Cars’ quirky style with rhythm, effects, beats and guitar, while flowing Viv’s clear and solid vocals right through it all. What an awesome voice from a promising young artist! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!”

[Viv was recently our Download of the Week!]

“It’s Life (dance with indifference)” by Marnée for Indie Pop

“This very talented young lady melts my heart every time I hear her sing. The song is upbeat and energetic! Her voice control at such a young age is amazing, as is her stage presence, (go check out her videos). Pay attention to this gal…she’s a rising star! A very enjoyable listen.”

“Georgia On My Mind” by Louie Blue for Cover Bands

“This is an outstanding rendition of a southern classic by Ray Charles. Louie’s voice is perfectly suited, and he presents with convincing, heart-felt soul. Just close your eyes and listen…you’ll think it’s Ray, himself. After that, while you’re listening, read the comments…wow! Thanks Louie!”

THE REAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

Kids these days— they’re getting more adventurous and better at everything they do. While we don’t really have as many young kids on OurStage as say Star Search or America’s Got Talent, we do have plenty of great teenage bands and musicians (check out Marnee). Some rock, some rap, some pop. But whatever the genre, their youth always impresses us.  Below is a playlist of nine bands who rock who just happen to be teens. These kids aren’t alright, they’re downright awesome.

YOU BE THE JUDGE: FAN PICKS WITH CATHIE FREDRICKSON

osblog_ybtj_cathiefredrickson02At OurStage, the site is just as much about the fans as it is about the artists. They need each other to stay busy and happy; fans need artists to listen to and artists need an audience! That’s why we ask fans to judge the music the way we do. We also want to help real fans have an even bigger voice on the site. This is the reason we launched “You Be The Judge: Fan Picks”. In these posts, we’ll feature an active fan on the site with an impressive and honest judging history. This month’s featured fan is Cathie Fredrickson.

We asked Cathie to pick her 3 favorite tracks in the June Semifinals that she’d love to see win. These were the ones she liked best. Check them out!
“This is an exceptional example of Spoken Word, combining both top notch musical production, heartfelt vocals and lyrical content depicting the ongoing struggles of the People of Africa that I believe needs to be heard around the world.”

“Her vocals are pure as silk, clear and vibrant with a hint of accent!!!! The song is a very relatable story of keeping oneself safe, but are you really….?”

“She is the future of our continued music for the world to hear.  Awesome in all respects, positive energetic vocal delivery, great original lyrics and an awesome instrumentalist and performer!!!!!”

Thanks Cathie!  Stay tuned for more Fan Picks in the future!
