After a great interview with Takka Takka, I had to stop back to check out their showcase (They have a whopping 7 this year at CMJ). They did not disappoint. Live they have a more straight ahead sound than on the new record, Migration, but it worked well nonetheless. Featuring lyrics that are both contemplative and conversational, Takka Takka, was able to transcend the space, which was less than ideal. The fact that they were able to stay together and harmonize vocals without monitors, speaks volumes about their musicianship and skill. More pictures after the jump.

Broken Social Scene Rocking …

Broken Social Scene … giving us some a$s … yeah boys.

I ended the day by checking in with one of my favorite bands, Death Cab for Cutie… and apparently so did everyone else!! It was a perfectly mellow way to end a wild week of music and adventure.
My Morning Jacket is known for their incredible festival performances. And while their live skills are undeniable – something exceptional came out tonight when they braved pouring rain for FOUR hours. With only a short break, they performed an impressive array of cover songs and fan favorites. Here are some pics from the night …
It was pretty hard to get clear pictures because everything was soaking wet!! (But I thought this one looked really cool!)
After a while Jim James tossed on a big ol hat to try and shield himself as the water covered every square inch of the stage
MMJ’s light shows are always spectacular, but with the added rain we found ourselves immersed in a spectacle that was so unbelievable … it bordered on a religious experience!
OurStage biggest fan, Shinny, and girlfriend, Cara, proved that they were the right fans for Bonnaroo 08 – a little rain wasn’t going to stop them from sitting front and center for this amazing show!
The New Orleans tent was a really cool place to hear some killer blues and grab some spicy bayou bites. It was $5 for an all day pass into the tent and all proceeds went to fund raising efforts for NOLA. Here’s a pic of one of the musicians we saw that night …
When we stepped outside & looked up we were greeted by one of the highlights of Bonnaroo …
Shinny got geared up, VIP style, for the nights big show – My Morning Jacket.
Sorry, the night shots got a little blurry … I promise it wasn’t the booze
Well that’s a little better.
After the Press Project played their amazing set Cap, Iyeoka (from the band) and I went over to check out the M.I.A. show. Just walking there you could feel the heat blazing from the tent. There was light and beats and movement and sound … it was a hot, thumping dance party that can only be described as the offspring of a wild night between an African tribal dance, a rave and a hard core hip hop show … it was amazing. Towards the end of her set when she played ‘Boyz’ it felt like the place was going to explode – and when she spit her most anticipated ‘Paper Planes’ it felt like we were part of a musical revolution … there’s simply no other way to explain it.
The show was so hot and packed that everyone was drenched in sweat. And what a treat it was to step out from under a sweltering and crowded tent into the cooling summer rain … here’s Cap drinking it in
THIS is the type of experience you’ll only find at Bonnaroo.
