It looks like my girlfriend’s cat’s tail.  Maybe that’s what she meant when she said I was doing weird things in my sleep. . . “

Takka Takka Plays The Red Bull Space

After a great interview with Takka Takka, I had to stop back to check out their showcase (They have a whopping 7 this year at CMJ). They did not disappoint. Live they have a more straight ahead sound than on the new record, Migration, but it worked well nonetheless. Featuring lyrics that are both contemplative and conversational, Takka Takka, was able to transcend the space, which was less than ideal. The fact that they were able to stay together and harmonize vocals without monitors, speaks volumes about their musicianship and skill. More pictures after the jump.

Excepter at the Paw Tracks Showcase

The Paw Tracks Showcase was at Le Poisson Rouge, a great room with a great atmosphere.  I wanted to like Excepter, I really did but it seemed like the band was trying so hard to be art house that they forgot to practice.  Maybe I just don’t understand it?  Because the audience seemed to be digging it, but I couldn’t force myself to stay.  I really wanted to see Dent May and His Magnificent Ukulele, but needed to head to the Takka Takka showcase so if anyone saw it post in the comment section and let me know how it went. More pictures after the jump.

Quinn featured on Brooklyn Vegan (sort of)

As a relatively nascent indie music blogger, I never expected to be featured in Brooklyn Vegan (the indie music blog of all indie music blogs…along with Stereogum).

And I guess technically, I haven’t been. But the back of my head made an appearance in this post on Dan Deacon at Bumbershoot:

Bumbershoot Extras: The Offspring

My last day at Bumbershoot was a complete whirlwind. Kate Tucker, Blitzen Trapper, and Dan Deacon were all incredible. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I didn’t make it out to some of the biggest shows of the day, including The Offspring, Paramore, and Death Cab for Cutie. Fortunately, my friend Tiffany Sherman came through with great pictures of each of them. Here are some of her best of The Offspring:

More pics of The Offspring below…
