Friday Flow: "Another Dirty Word" by DSTRUCTIVE
posted in: Urban
Every Friday on the OurStage blog, I’ll be featuring a great example of flow and lyricism on a hip hop song pulled from the OurStage ranks. I’ll get the artist’s thoughts on the track, as well as post the lyrics or best verse so fans can follow the flow themselves.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, DSTRUCTIVE is bringing his classic style to rhyme about a heavy topic ”another four-letter dirty word. As another emcee that takes cues from Atmosphere, DSTRUCTIVE’s calm flow against the accompanying relaxed downtempo jazz beat sets the perfect vibe for a story of love lost.

Self-proclaimed beat murderer
Another dirty word is a song that I wrote about the relationship with my first love. Really it highlights the period in my life when I realized love isn’t always rose petals and happy endings. Often there is at least one party involved that ends up feeling the wrath of heartbreak. Most of the song uses metaphor to describe the situation because I believe the art of hip-hop lies in circumlocution or going around an idea rather than saying what you mean in a direct manner. My favorite part of the song would have to be the hook because I was able to verbalize my exact emotions. It really just summed up the whole idea of the song for me. With the way the industry is right now, I just wanna bring a fresh perspective into southern hip-hop.
Verse:
is this picture perfect wedding just exactly what you thought it’d be
or does being tied down make you nauseous like the thought of me
I caught a bee gently by the wing
she flied beside me for awhile of course she had to sting
took a portion of my dreams with my heart, soul, and innocence
thinking I was smart I fell for fundamental mental tricks
like, “behave yourself and after wards you get a little kiss”
one was too many infinity never enough
I taste them sweet soft lips now I’m feathery fluff
singing corny love songs call me Hilary Duff
short story, aight she had me twisted up
wanted her to change her name to miss DSTRUCTIVE vicious, but
we started bickerin’ and in my lonely ignorance
she found a greener pasture, sprinted, leaped, and cleared the fence
left me solitary heart buried in a steel box
no ordinary female has abilities to unlockHook:
there’s nothing half as sweet in life as love’s young dream
thinkin’ it would last forever was the dumb thing
what goes up must explode into pieces
leave us all divided undecided on our thesis
is first love amazing or a necessary evil
to teach us how to treat other people
so deceitful, a lesson is learned
if you’re trying to start a fire don’t be impressed when it burnsVerse:
on the rebound found comfort in a full bottle
never been one to start slow so its full throttle
together daily always with my baby
we kissin’ at the movies and I’m woozy like I’m sailing
and in the restaurant she’s a tall glass
one more sniff of her scent and I’ll fall fast
her very presence is intoxicating
if you’re caught within her grasp you are not evading
but let me tell you something ’bout her friend her name is mary jane
went at it all night, morning felt the very same
no regrets like the one before
in fact when I wake up I just want some more
no matter what the wardrobe shes always smokin’
we never disagree her mind is always open
contemplatin’ eloping to seal the deal
I wanna spend my life with Mary what I feel is realHook:
there’s nothing half as sweet in life as love’s young dream
thinkin’ it would last forever was the dumb thing
what goes up must explode into pieces
leave us all divided undecided on our thesis
is first love amazing or a necessary evil
