Viewer Discretion Advised: Creative Chaos With Julian Smith
posted in: Features
Here on Viewer Discretion Advised, I like to keep the content moving”from OurStage artists, to established acts, to humorous videos, to news. Needless to say I’m easily distracted. So when a fellow OurStager brought Julian Smith to my attention not long ago I found myself totally absorbed in his mish-mash of online video content. Finally another creative type who just can’t keep his ideas straight.
Growing up with a music industry executive dad, Julian started playing guitar at the tender age of 7. After trying and failing to rig very basic recording devices using the family computer, he finally sucked it up and buckled down to save the money for a real computer and slowly started building a home recording studio. Final Cut Pro followed, and soon Julian was on his way to cutting his own video shorts complete with original scores. Did we mention he was only 15?
Today, Julian continues his reign as a chaotic creative, and is working towards directing full length feature films. And while we can’t speak to that, we sure as hell enjoy his musical web shorts. He also has ties with the OurStage family, having directed OurStage artist’s Marc Scibilia‘s videos for the lovely tracks “Carried Away” and “Hope Anthem”. Check out the music video for “Carried Away” below along with the video short that started it all, “Techno Jeep”.
