The Sigh Road

According to Celtic mythology, the three noble strains of music are joy, sorrow and physicality, represented by three harpists. Whether Nashville singer-songwriters Patrick Rickelton and Tres Crow embodied these virtues before they took the name Noble Three, or if they were bestowed through some sort of mystical alchemy, we’ll never know. Suffice it to say, the duo are aptly named. Blending organic and digital textures, Noble Three craft dreamy, wistful folk-pop that”to quote Rob Bass”evokes “joy, pain, sunshine and rain.” My Loneliest Year tells a tale of lovelessness with a couple reiterating piano keys, multi-tracked vocals and acoustic guitars. Rickelton sings of friendships to rival the Argonauts, weaving threads of nostalgia round each line. The Road is equally elegiac, this time with a keening violin and keyboard. These visceral, moody folk songs are countered by the hiss and scrape of electronica on the excellent instrumental track, Party Crashers. The sorrow may come across stronger than the joy in Noble Three’s music”but with so many melodic virtues it’s pointless to harp on a little bit of rain.
