Needle In The Haystack Artist Takeover: Asper Kourt

posted in: Features

Asper Kourt has been floating around the average OurStage staffer’s brain ever since the Subway “Fresh Artists” Competition with the Goo Goo Dolls. After placing in the contest’s Top 10 for their region, the band soon became one of three finalists considered by the Goo Goo Dolls themselves. While they didn’t win, they certainly can’t be considered always a bridesmaid, never a bride, because shortly after MTV came a-knocking (check them out on MTV Music here!). As a champion of independent artists, its exciting to watch a young band go through all kinds of firsts, and Asper Kourt is both grateful and excited about every instance along the way.

“During a snowboarding trip to Colorado this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised when a young girl and her family recognized me as the lead singer of Asper Kourt. This was my first, out of town, band-spotting incident and I got to say¦ it was pretty darn cool! All of us in the band are easily amused with happenings such as this one and we can’t help but hope that they start to happen more frequently as time goes on. It has been about two years since our debut EP Changing Times was released, and with an ode to the cliché, I will say that time truly has zipped on by.

In the past couple of years we have experienced many firsts and fun times with the band. We have been fortunateenough to share the stage with some great acts such as Uncle Kracker, Five For Fighting, The Rocket Summer and Barcelona. We made our TV debut as star guests on the Food Network show, What Would Brian Boitano Make? Also, two of our songs were chosen by competing airlines, American and Delta, to be played on their in flight radio (“Firefly” is actually being played now and through February 2011 on AA, so let us know if you hear it!). Through everything in the last 3 years, our adventures have led us to this . . . writing our very first blog post for the honor of being named a “Needle in the Haystack” winner by Ourstage.  With our newest EP, The Air You Breath at the brink of release, we are excited to see what kind of firsts lay ahead in 2011. Happy New Year!”
