GuacaMusic: Q&A With Fireage

If you love rock en español, you’ll definitely dig Fireage, a band from Panama that is getting rave reviews from fans in Latin America and beyond. In fact, this cool band won April’s Grand Prize on MTV DEMO, OurStage’s Spanish sister site.
We had the opportunity to talk with Fireage about their recent victory as Grand Prize winners and their future plans to conquer the Spanish-speaking world.
OS: You guys just won the Grand Prize on MTV DEMO. How do you feel about that?
FA: We were thrilled when we heard that we were the Grand Prize winners on MTV DEMO. We think that it is really hard to win a prize from such a renowned brand so we were ecstatic to think that we could reach markets like Mexico and other countries. What we like the most about MTV DEMO is that it is an excellent opportunity to get exposure in other places, because the contests transcend geographical borders and can help us get a lot more fans.
OS: How would you describe the personality of the band? 
FA: Fireage is a band that is very passionate about rock. We are one of those bands that really love what we do and we live everything intensively. Our style has a strong pop-punk influence.
OS: What is the story behind Fireage? How did you guys get together?
FA: Fireage started in 2005, when a group of friends who loved rock, had an urge to express their feelings and ideas through music. We got together one day and decided it was time to stop dreaming and start a new chapter in our lives. It was time to live our dreams.
OS: What does Fireage mean? Where did the name come from?
FA: Our name comes from the first time that we had the opportunity to perform on stage. We didn’t have a name so we talked about the fact that we were five friends of different ages, so we were going to call ourselves Five Age. We talked some more and decided our name should be more passionate and aggressive, so we change the word five for fire and we named ourselves Firage.
OS: Tell us about your favorite bands.
FA: We love Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41 and Simple Plan. If we could play with any band it would definitely be Blink 182. In Latin America, we would love to play with Allison and Don Tetto.
OS: What are some of your goals as a band?
FA: Our dream is to be a well-known band that gets its ideals to many parts of the globe. We would love to get to play on some of the greatest stages around the world and become one of the best bands in America.
OS: What would you say to other bands that are trying to succeed in this field?
FA: Never stop believing in your ideals and never stop trying to achieve your dreams. Never give up.
