posted in: Music News
According to Spinner, Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack has been confirmed dead at age 65. Hossack died yesterday, March 12, at his home in Dubois, Wyoming following a long battle with cancer. Unfortunately, his untimely passing precedes a Doobie Brothers summer tour with Chicago. Along with drummer John Hartman, Hossack was the grooving rhythm behind such well-known hits as “China Grove” and “Black Water.”
In January, the band’s management reported, “Michael Hossack is improving slowly. He sends his regards to all our fans. He’s still working on health issues but getting better. We will keep you updated on a regular basis.”
In 2010, Hossack commented about his health in a posting on the Brothers’ website, “I have had some problems relating to injuries I received in an auto accident a couple of years ago,” Hossack stated. “I needed to take some time off to address these issues, and get my health back on track. Things are improving, but it may be several months before I’m able to get back to touring.”
On the Doobie Brothers’s website, you’ll see a message acknowledging the band’s loss and a link to Hossack’s bio.
