At 88, music pioneer and founder of Marshall Amps Jim Marshall has died. In an interview with The Associated Press, his son Terry Marshall reveals that he had previously suffered from cancer and a series of strokes, and subsequently died in a hospice Thursday morning.
“He was in a terrible state the last five or six weeks,” Terry says. ” He’s in a much better place now.”

Marshall began making guitar amps fifty years ago, and was even nicknamed “The Father of Loud.” The news of his death broke out through a statement on the official Marshall website that reads: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved founder and leader for the past 50 years….While the entire Marshall Amplification family mourns Jim’s passing and will miss him tremendously, we all feel richer for having known him and are happy in the knowledge that he is now in a much better place which has just got a whole lot louder!
