Spotify And Century Media Now Friends

After a long, heated battle between bands, fans, and label group Century Media, the latter company has arrived at the decision to add their entire catalog back into Spotify‘s music database. Included under this umbrella are labels InsideOut Music, Superball Music, People Like You Records and, of course, Century Media’s own metal catalog. This includes some of the biggest bands in metal today, as well as the likes of Matt Skiba and the Sekrets, Krum Bums, Dredg, and others.

In a press release, Century Media reps state, “After the initial decision to pull the Century Media catalog from Spotify, label execs were impressed by the resulting debate, especially the messages and comments by the thousands of fans who weighed in on the issue. Fan sentiment and continued discussions with Spotify have resulted in the label reversing its initial decision.”

What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Perhaps not much, but for Spotify users it does provide hope that other labels who have decided to opt-out may change their minds at some point. Some prominent metal labels are still holding out on joining the Spotify bandwagon, most notably Metal Blade Records, Nuclear Blast Records and Sumerian Records.
