MIXTAPE MONDAYS: Lil B, Sir Michael Rocks, Red Cafe

posted in: FeaturesMusic NewsUrban

What’s up, hip hop heads? Another Monday is upon us and I have a plethora of tracks and news to share with all of you. Before I get there however, I want to stress that this column is always seeking new talent to highlight. If you’re an aspiring urban artist, submit your OS profile and most recent mixture to jshotwell@ourstage.com with the subject “Mixtape Mondays.”

Now that I’ve made that clear, let’s see what new sounds we have found this week!

1. Lil B – Glassface (Download)

There is no definition for an artist like Lil B. His body of work grows faster than the national debt, and each mixtape seems to expose yet another side of his artistic abilities. Glassface is no different, offering a few glances at the emcee’s emotion side, but rest assured it still packs a few punches as well. All hail the based God.

2. Sir Michael Rocks – Lap Of Lux 1.5 (Download)

There has been a rising amount of deluxe albums and reissues in 2012, but rarely has the idea impacted the mixtape market. Theoretically, there is no real need or reason to give the same material away for free more than once, but Sir Michael Rock felt there was more to add to his Summer release and now we have Lap Of Lux 1.5 to enjoy. If you need reminded of the good vibes the sunshine brings, this will probably keep you warmer than any fireplace this holiday season.

3. Red Cafe – American Badass

This one isn’t for download just yet, but I’m so excited to see Red Cafe finally grace the streets with a new tape that I could not resist sharing the artwork. We have been quietly working on featuring Red more on OS in the coming weeks, so consider this a teaser for what I assume will be a full-on Red Cafe invasion across the urban scene in 2013.
