Lorde's Spooky Take On Tears For Fears

Critical mass approacher Lorde has certainly got a dark streak, clearly part of her undeniable appeal. ’80s hitmakers Tears For Fears also had a serious impending-doom vibe in their lyrics, belied by the radio-friendly bounce of their arrangements. Put the two together, as some evil genius did for the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, and you’ve got a downright haunting track. Lorde takes on “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” here, and it’s laudably original, exposing the song’s dark heart, though, I dunno, seems like she’s trying just a touch too hard with the darkness and the scary and the intense and the emoting. Still, I like it. Great arrangement of a great song. Recommended listening.
