Jay Z Tops Billboard Charts With 'Magna Carta… Holy Grail'

Against the assumptions of many naysayers, Jay Z (who no longer wants you to use, write, or think the hyphen in his name) has topped the Billboard album charts with his new album Magna Carta¦ Holy Grail.
For many artists, promoting the fact you’re giving away a million copies of your album for free may spell disaster for your actual album sales. This is not the case with Jay Z, however, as the New York emcee sold 528,208 copies of his new record in addition to the million released for free through his promotion with Samsung. That’s nearly 500,000 copies more than the #2 album, which happened to be the self-titled return from Ciara. You can view the full list below.
As my teachers always used to say, “One occurrence does not a pattern create.” This is a silly way of saying that Jay Z may be a rare case, and that other artists hoping to make a splash may not be able to find similar success. Do you think that is the case? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
