The Biebs is back, baby (baby baby).
After teasing a big single release the majority of 2013 up to this point, Justin Bieber finally blessed the Internet with his new song, “Heartbreaker,” early this morning. The track is the first to surface from Bieber since his 2012 studio album, and in keeping with his desire to constantly reinvent his sound, the track showcases a side of the young Canadian rarely heard up to this point. You can stream the single at the end of this post.
So, what has changed in the world of Justin Bieber since he was singing about all he’d do for you as long as you love him? First and foremost, his influences. Bieber has become more and more immersed in the urban community over the last year, and “Heartbreaker” is drenched in RnB sensibilities from the late ’90s. Secondly, his lyrical approach continues to evolve as he grows up. The cockiness of “Boyfriend” is still there, but he’s addressing women now, rather than “girls,” and it gives the whole affair a decidedly more mature tone.
Bieber has yet to reveal or even mention plans to release a new album, but we believe the release of “Heartbreaker” is the beginning of a bigger promotional push that will be revealed as the fall carries on. For now, comment below and let us know your thoughts on Justin’s latest.
