How Is This News? Lady Gaga's See-Through Dress

posted in: Music NewsPop

Gimmicks last much longer than fifteen minutes these days. Need proof? Last week, Lady Gaga made headlines (again) for wearing a “shockinglyridiculous dress to a press conference in Mexico (pictured above). Is that really the word that should be used to describe her style these days? She’s been in every publication both online and in print for over two years, has there really has been a rise in shock value since her Kermit(s) outfit:

The real story here is that her music sales are starting to slip. After “Born This Way” impacted and became “Express Yourself 2.0,” the singer pushed controversy over music to promote the second single, “Judas.” At first, “Judas” exploded onto the charts with 162,000 copies sold in three days, but then began to fall almost instantly in its first full week of release, moving only 156,000 units. This then turn from a slide to avalanche in week three as sales dipped once again to 81,000, moving Gaga from #6 to #19 on the Billboard charts. To almost no surprise, Gaga’s team quickly recovered from this by rushing single three, “Edge Of Glory,” less than a month later, with another single planned before the May 17 Born This Way album release. Some may say this is all just extra publicity and marketing, but Gaga is everywhere, she doesn’t need extra publicity (or does she?).
