The Pixies: New Bassist, New Video, New Tour Dates

Beloved alt-rock pioneers The Pixies have had a seemingly bumpy road lately, with a remarkably weird negative review of their latest EP from the ever-influential Pitchfork, which followed the news that founding bassist, singer, and songwriter Kim Deal was leaving the band. It was not long before they announced her replacement, Muffs bassist Kim Shattuck. However, upon returning from a recent European tour, Shattuck revealed the news that she was being let go.
But this weekend, The Pixies hired Paz Lenchantin, a session pro who’s played with Billy Corgan‘s Zwan and A Perfect Circle, among others.
On the heels of that news, they’ve just released a delightful new video for “Another Toe In The Ocean,” following the animated adventures of frontman Frank Black. You can see the clip, written, directed, and animated by Liviu Boar, below.
And just to prove that all this tumult isn’t slowing them down, The Pixies will be back on tour throughout the first six months of 2014, hitting the U.S., South America, and Europe, with various dates being opened by Best Coast, Fidlar, and Cults, and a date opening for Arcade Fire in Dublin.
