SECRET AGENT: OURSTAGE

Do you feel like you could have taken Matt Damon’s place  in the Bourne trilogy?  What would your version of a spy movie be like? Personally, I’ve already mapped out the plot for my own secret agent movie and, more importantly, what music would go with it.  So hit play and check out the epic adventure inside my head.

Read the scene description for each song and get the full story line after the jump!

VOICES OF GHOST OF GLORIA

Hailing from the sunshine state, Ghost of Gloria is a band heading straight to your radio!  A recent finalist in Hard Rock Cafe’s Amassadors of Rock contest, Ghosts of Gloria also won the acclaimed Pick the Band contest which provided them the opportunity to produce a track with Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Lit, Good Charlotte). Needless to say, the band is keeping busy as they prepare for the onslaught of popularity coming their way.

“We make music that means something to each of us. . .and I think you can hear that in our songs,” says lead vocalist and guitarist John D’Angelo.

Here on OurStage, Ghost of Gloria has received six Top 10 awards over the past year.  Look for their new EP produced by Matt LaPlant of Bieler Bros. Records on iTunes and CDBaby now!

NEW DIGS AT OURSTAGE

Over the past 2+ years OurStage has grown in many different ways, and during this time we’ve made several changes to our Website. Today we’re announcing 3 of the latest updates to the site: the playlist editor, channel page and a new media item toolbar.

playlisteditor

The previous design of the new playlist editor is spiffed up with a flash-based interface. The library on the left includes your thumbed and favorite music and even offers some recommendations from us! It’s also a great way to organize playlists (our blog staff can attest to this because they each have dozens!) The look, feel and usage of the playlist editor will continue to grow over time with more functionality from commonly used software applications.

The channel page is the best place for you to listen to the top 100 tracks on any channel from the site.  The new page load time is significantly faster and allows users (that’s you!) to track content on the site with greater ease.

media-item-toolbar1

The revamped media item toolbar boasts not only a new style, but also an easy way to add songs to playlists!  You can see it used in quite a few different places on the site.

So what do you think?  Post a comment or email us because we’d love to hear what you have to say!  And keep an eye out for more changes to come!

A CASE OF THE MONDAYS!

Admit it. Whether you had a relaxing, exciting, or run-of-the-mill weekend, you still dread waking up in the morning once Monday rolls around. Somehow, someway Mondays (and not to mention rainy days) always bring you down. Funny how that always seems to happen. So before you head off to work to battle with a broken printer, leave for class without your homework assignment, or spill your coffee on your favorite fluffy slippers, check out these tracks to get you moving on the right track!

LEAKS AREN’T JUST FOR THE MAJORS

In the early days of the music industry, a leak was as simple as a radio DJ copying an advance release and giving it to a friend. Today within minutes of someone sharing an album online, it’s available to anyone with an internet connection (and sufficient knowledge of where to obtain these files). It has become a daily habit of publications such as Digital Music News to announce leaks and add exposure to the growing leak issues in the industry. These recent leaks include hot shots such as Green Day, Eminem, Wilco and Franz Ferdinand.

tori

Recently there has been a new front to this leak battle; Independent artists are starting to see the same issues as their Major label counterparts. One such example: Tori Amos’ latest album leaked on May 11th, it was due to hit stores only 8 days later.

Luckily, artists are fighting back with other promotions to promote buying their album. Those who pre-ordered Tori’s album on iTunes received a password to order tickets for her summer tour before the general public. The album also came with a DVD video; items like this are not usually included in prerelease leaks giving fans a reason to pick up the album. Artists like Tori also have another thing going for them: a loyal fan base who may download a leak but will still purchase the album for the extras and in support of the artist.

The industry is changing.  The classic music industry tactics are futile.  Labels must embrace change and adjust tactics for success as independent artists have, or they will soon fall to dust.
