Absofacto Mason Proper Jonathan Visger

Wingman: Jonathan Visger

Absofacto is the latest side project of Jonathan Visger, singer for Michigan-based outfit Mason Proper, not to be confused with Visger’s other side project, Bug Lung Baby. However, if you’re a fan of the latter, you’ll definitely love the former. Absofacto shows what one creative soul can do with the right equipment. Visger handles guitar, bass drums, keys and vocal duties, loading on textures while maintaining a certain amount of space in his arrangements. In No Power a delayed slide guitar and multitracked vocals with reverb give the song a dreamy, lilting cadence. It’s a surreal little melody with whiffs of Beatles’ psychedelia.  The shuddering Pigeon Toes is irresistibly manic and paranoid, with meaty guitar riffs that recall Beatles I Want You So Bad. If you think bespectacled composers are less likely to seduce, Visger has another thought coming for you with the sexy slink of Safari. I brought my glasses so I blend into the masses, he sings. With chops like his, blending may not be an option.
