Metal Monday: Great Metal Tours in 2010

‘Tis the season to be… metal! Unlike many genres of music, winter is a popular touring season for metal bands. This year it seems some of the biggest and most highly- regarded acts are teaming up for mammoth tours. From death metal to progressive metal, there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking to see some metal veterans, there’s some of that. If you’re looking to see some of the metal rookies looking to make waves, there’s lots of that too. Exodus, Scale the Summit, Revocation, Nile, Between the Buried and Me and many more are all hitting the road!

The first tour on the list is Metal As Art tour, featuring Revocation, Hypno5e and The Binary Code.  You’re a bit behind the 8 ball if you’ve yet to hear these three bands. Revocation were signed to Relapse in mid 2009, and ended up being one of the biggest bands of last year. Hypno5e and The Binary code are also relatively new to the metal scene ” both extremely technical and progressive bands, they’ll be sure to make waves in 2010.

The second big tour this winter is the Those Who The Gods Detest tour, featuring Nile, Immolation, Krisiun, Abigail Williams and Dreaming Dead. Metal veterans Nile are out supporting their new album, Those Who The Gods Detest with a stellar lineup of both new and old death metal bands with the classic death metal style.

Next is the Tyrants of Evil tour, featuring the most disjunct lineup of all the winter tours. It boasts: Arch Enemy, Exodus, Arsis and Mutiny Within. Arch Enemy are one of the most prominent “gothenburg” metal bands still on the scene today, co-headlining with one of the most legendary thrash metal bands ever, Exodus. The technical death/thrash masters Arsis (whom have a new album coming out February 9), and young melodic death metal band Mutiny Within footing the bill.

Last, but not least, is The Great Misdirect tour, which is headlined by Between the Buried and Me in support of their newest album, The Great Misdirect. Followed by what could be the greatest supporting cast for a tour this year, progressive metal legends Cynic and Devin Townsend, along with newcomers Scale the Summit who are earning their stripes for sure, having just toured with Dream Theater.

If you have the chance, you should make it out to the nearest tour stop for all of these, as they’re all guaranteed to give you a hefty dose of metal. Check out the tour dates for each of these tours below:
