These boots were made for fighting: J Records recording artist Krista
Having a hardscrabble youth can have its upside in adulthood, provided you channel your struggle through positive mediums. Brooklyn recording artist Krista does just that, lacing danceable pop beats with grinding hard rock textures and pouring charged lyrics on of top it all. Think of her as the female combination of Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda ” in one moment her voice is girlish and fetching, in another it’s inflamed with an anger that belies her age. Her track, Temporary Insanity illustrates this dichotomy. Over the static crunch of guitars, Krista sings bitterly of a love gone wrong, then breaks into a vitriolic rap: Just want to freak out and ball my fists just to break these walls. Moral of the story: breaking up is hard to do.
Missile veers more to the pop side. There’s still an intensity to the arrangements, similar to Maroon 5’s Harder to Breathe. Whether Krista is belting out insistent little rockers or catchy pop melodies, she’ll be getting those chips off her shoulders one way or another. And we get to watch the fireworks.
