Death of Auto Tune

Girls, Guns and Glory

The sounds of technology permeate virtually every second of the day for most of us ” the cry of our cell phones, the click of our keyboards, the synthetic tremble of Ke$ha’s autotune vocal chords monopolizing the airwaves. Sometimes it’s nice to step away from the high-tech melee and travel back to someone else’s time, like Eddie Cochran’s or Gene Vincent’s. This is what Girls, Guns and Glory do, and they do it well. Vintage Americana with an emphasis on movement and melody. For a Bostonian, frontman Ward Hayden has an enviable twang, and he uses it to full effect. Much like Calexico, GG&G weaves percussive Latin elements into their arrangements. The fiery Temptation, with its trilling trumpet and Spanish guitars, will set your feet ablaze. But for a straight up shot from the halcyon days of rock ‘n’ roll, load up Suzie on your iPod. Hear that melodic warble in Hayden’s voice? It’s au naturel, baby.
