Rock Candy

Alyssa Atherton

Location, location, location. It’s the mantra of realtors all over the world, but it can seal the deal for undiscovered talent, too. Take Alyssa Atherton, for example. The teenage singer from Sioux Falls recorded her first tracks in a building that also housed an agency with a connection to MTV. Soon, Atherton was hearing her music on shows like The Hills, The Real World, and Cribs. No wonder”her candy-coated rock isn’t a far cry from another flame-haired MTV darling, Paramore’s Haley Williams. Spinning combines fuzzed-up guitars and banging drums with Atherton’s sweet and vicious vocal for a delirious, adrenaline-drenched rocker. Not Thinking of You, with its angular jut of guitars and drums, is an anthem for the emo kids, while Don’t Stop is a breathless, sugar rock rush. We’re moving too fast, at this pace we won’t last Atherton sings. We beg to differ.
