John Mayer Teases Fans With Clip From New Album

In his decade-long career, John Mayer has gone from sensitive singer-songwriter, to slowhand impersonator, and back again. Well, now you can add “country crooner” to his repertoire. Yesterday afternoon, Mayer posted a 60 second clip of his new single Shadow Days to his Tumblr. Mayer fans who have been anxiously awaiting the delayed follow up to 2009’s Battle Studies may be surprised to hear a bit of country-twang in the short preview. Fans in search of a return to the soulful blues style found on Continuum need not apply.

If this sound byte is any indication of the overall record, Mayer is clearly changing up his style (again) while sill retaining the careful songwriting and chilled-out singing that has spanned his career. After suffering through some vocal issues towards the end of 2011, Mayer’s new album Born And Raised was postponed until sometime later this year (but after hearing this clip, it can’t be too far off).
