Is The Postal Service Going To Deliver Another Album Any Time Soon? Don't "Hold Your Breath," Says Gibbard

Has it really been ten years since the release of Give Up, the debut album from electronic duo The Postal Service? Not quite, but it will be in about five months. Wow, I’m getting old.
So when can nostalgics and fans of fey indie rock/electronic music expect a followup from the group comprised of Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello aka Dntel? Probably not for a long time, if ever.
In a recent interview with Spinner, Gibbard stressed that while he enjoyed composing and creating with Tamborello as The Postal Service, the whole electronic music production thing just isn’t his bag, man.
“I’m much more interested in playing music than creating it, so to speak,” said Gibbard. And there’s no bad blood between the two Postal Service principles. “I really enjoyed doing that record with Jimmy…I find that making music in computers involves a lot of mouse time… I don’t have an aesthetic for that. Keeping up on new software technology, I’m not particularly interested in that.” While Gibbard didn’t completely rule out future releases from himself and Tamborello, he would emphatically state that fans pining for another release from the group, “shouldn’t hold their breath. You’re going to pass out if you do.”
In the meantime Gibbard is focusing on his most recent effort, his solo album (released under the name Benjamin Gibbard) Former Lives, a very analog effort chock-full of pianos and guitars. It’s quite good.
If you’re still feeling nostalgic then you can listen to the first song that Tamborello and Gibbard collaborated on, “(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan,” below.
