Despite having been a band for over two decades, Deftones show no signs of slowing down. The pioneering metal outfit will be headlining a string of October dates running up to the release of their seventh studio album Koi No Yokan. With support from Scars On Broadway, the October tour sees the group taking an intercontinental trip across the US with stops throughout the East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest. Hell, they even threw some Canadian dates in there too.
Speaking on the recording of Koi No Yokan with Noisecreep, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno mentions that the new album will see the band moving, “back to basics.”
“We were coming out of a tough time, obviously, and our goal was to kind of rebuild what we created over all the years. I felt like we had to prove ourselves,” Moreno said. “We didn’t have an idea of what sort of style we wanted. We just came in fired up and motivated to do something great. It was all very positive. We had more songs than ever, tons of ideas.”
Regarding the state of bassist Chi Cheng, who has been recovering from serious injuries sustained in a 2008 car crash, Moreno said, “The whole band feels very strongly about him and he’s always been a part of things. The main thing we try to do is keep a positive attitude because it’ not like he died “ it’s more or less he’s still alive and fighting and we all have hope “ that’s the way we handle things.”
Koi No Yokan is scheduled for release on November 13th. You can check out the dates and pick up tickets for the band’s October tour here. Listen to “Rosemary,” a new song from Koi No Yokan, below.
