Spacehog's Newest, 'As It Is On Earth'

I have a soft spot for the historically irreverent, arena-sized glam rock of late-90s one-and-a-half hit wonders Spacehog. I was an intern for their record company when “In The Meantime” hit big across the airwaves and MTV, and got to see them a number of times, each performance living up to their image as natural rock stars. And yet they were such gracious people. Later, “Mungo City,” the single from their follow-up album, made headway in various regions, but was not the juggernaut that its predecesor was. Still, an amazing track (though a friend of mine insists the Michael Stipe-featuring “Almond Kisses” would have made a more successful single).

The point of all this is that Spacehog is back (lamentably without guitarist Ant Langdon, brother of singer Royston, last seen as one of Joaquin Phoenix‘ entourage in I’m Still Here). And if you remember and liked “Mungo City,” or even if you have any fondness for ’70s glam as typified by Bowie, Bolan, and Mercury, you ought to find the new single from As It Is On Earth, “Glad To Know,” a delightful, thumping piece of ear candy. Streaming now.

If you’re a Spacehog fan, you might also dig Osgoods.
