MGMT Release Album Trailer

MGMT have built a successful brand on delivering a sound (and accompanying set of visuals) unlike anything else currently being produced in music. Their musical references are often obscure, but each new release, including the much-maligned Congratulations, provides something new and entertaining. This morning, a trailer popped up for their forthcoming album, and it falls perfectly in line with their out-of-line career.
The trailer for MGMT’s upcoming self-titled release features previews of five new tracks built around a series of increasingly absurd scenarios. The opening scene finds MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden confronting terror in his own bathroom, before he makes his way to the local recording studio. Things get weird from there, with references to the recent NSA scandal and a mysterious group known as ‘Reptoids,’ all while the group rehearses material from the new album. You can view the trailer below.
If this is any indication of what music fans can expect from MGMT’s new album, they should be pleased. Comment below and let us know if you plan on picking up the new album when it arrives in stores September 17.
