Washington Celebrating Nirvana Day This April

It was bound to happen eventually. On April 10th, Hoquiam, Washington will honor the late great Seattle-based Nirvana in the only way it can: by declaring it Nirvana Day. Although the city’s mayor, Jack Durney, told radio station KXRO that the city isn’t associated with the rock band, Kurt Cobain did live in Hoquiam for a while.
They bring great honor, I think as I say, to our entire community,” explained Durney, “And I think that it’s good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while, but he and Krist Novoselic are part of our community, and I think it’s good to honor our sons and their great accomplishments.
In addition to Nirvana Day on April 10, the band will also receive their Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction, alongside bands such as the E Street Band and Kiss.
What will you be doing to celebrate Nirvana Day? We’re already putting up our Nirvana tree.
