Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" Manuscript Sells For $197,000

If you were hoping to get your hands on Bruce Springsteen‘s “Born To Run” manuscript that was auctioned off by Sotheby’s yesterday, we have some bad news. The lyrics, handwritten on ruled notebook paper in blue ink, have sold for $197,000 to an unidentified bidder. Since pre-auction estimates varied from $70,000-$100,000, we’d say that’s a pretty big increase in profit.
Including rough scribbles and ideas, along with a close to perfect chorus, Sotheby’s says about the manuscript, “Although Springsteen is known to have an intensive drafting process, few manuscripts of ‘Born to Run’ are available, with the present example being one of only two identified that include the most famous lines in the song.”
I guess that explains the $197,000 price tag.
