Metal Monday: New Developments for Antagonist
posted in: Features • Rock
Antagonist, the Prosthetic Records band and perennial OurStage Metal Chart toppers, are finishing up their most recent studio session working on the follow-up to 2008’s monster Exist. Since the release of Exist the guys in Antagonist have been touring like maniacs, and have lost and replaced a band member (they’ve welcomed bassist Nick Reyes into the fold).
Within various blog posts on the band’s MySpace page lie some hints about what the new album will be like, including a huge style change “ supposedly there is almost no clean singing on the new album. This means that the soaring catchy vocal lines might no longer be around. Their blog also tells us that the album is going to be 10 very angry tracks long with song titles such as “Darkest Darkness,” “Voice Unspoken,” and “New Human”. In the studio since May 12, Antagonist is tracking the album at BuzzBomb Sound Labs with Paul Miner (who has worked with bands such as Atreyu, Thrice, Death By Stereo, Throwdown).
With the lineup change and the self-proclaimed style adjustment, it’s hard to tell what exactly the album will sound like, but we do have a live clip of the band playing one of the new songs, “Bane of Existence.” Check it out:
All I know is that Exist was a very solid album, and “Bane of Existence”“ from what I can tell“ is a solid track. The new album sounds very promising thus far, and I feel like Antagonist won’t disappoint with their second full-length on Prosthetic. So what do you think about a style change? Do you think Antagonist would be better off with the clean vocals in there? What do you think of the new track? Let us know below!
